Our Flake Coating System
When you choose Resilient Concrete Coatings for your projects, you have several options for concrete covering. Our flake coating system is a popular one for residential spaces because of its benefits and aesthetic appeal. Keep reading to discover what our system is, its benefits, and how we install it in your project space.
Benefits of Our Flake Coating System
When you choose our flake concrete coating system, you get the following benefits:
Adds Texture
The flakes in our system add some texture to your floor, giving it a tactile texture and making it more slip-resistant than smooth flooring. This can make areas prone to moisture a little safer to walk on than some other types of flooring systems, which may become slippery when wet.
Creates a Seal
Our flake coating system also creates a seal between the bare concrete of your home’s foundation and elements such as UV radiation and water. Once the full system cures, you don’t have to worry about water from indoors getting through the floor. Plus, it’s easy to clean up any spills, which helps keep the system effective even longer.
Covers Imperfections
If your concrete has cracks, divots, waves, or other imperfections, the flakes in the system help cover them. They create a more interesting texture for the floor, making it appear as a solid piece with none of the underlying imperfections. Our system also helps you prevent buildups of dirt, grime, and liquids from pooling in those areas, halting any further damage from these factors. Notably, we are applying a coating to an existing surface, so if you already have a low spot, such as where water pools, then that low spot will remain.
Our Installation Process
Now that you understand the benefits of our flake concrete coating system, you’re ready to see our steps for installing your resilient concrete coating:
Preparing The Concrete Surface
To start, we prepare the surface of your project area by:
- Grinding: We use diamond grinders to prepare the concrete surface for our coating and to ensure it has a clean and smooth finish for our coatings to adhere to. We start with a walk behind planetary diamond grinder for the majority of the space and finish the edges and all other exposed concrete with a diamond hand grinder.
- Vacuuming: Once we grind the floor down, we collect the material and remove it from the space to ensure a clear work area with an excellent adhesive surface.
- Patching: To ensure a good finish, we’ll look for and patch cracks and other imperfections.
- Blowing: Finally, we blow out the area to ensure a clean space from any particles that can affect our flake coating system.
Applying Our Flake Coating System
Once we prepare the surface of your project area, we can start our application process. We:
- Apply Epoxy: We use epoxy as a primer or base coat of our system, and you can choose what color from our color options is best for your area.
- Broadcast Flake or Chip: Before the epoxy cures, we broadcast our flake fully to ensure a consistent finish.
- Clear Extra Flake: We use excess flake to ensure your floor is coated properly. Once the epoxy cures, we sweep and vacuum any loose flakes to clear them from the area and ensure any flakes sticking up from the epoxy are cut down to floor level before we apply the final coating system.
- Finish with Polyaspartic: To create the most durable concrete coating systems, we apply a final layer of polyaspartic flooring, which is scratch, chemical, impact, and UV radiation-resistant.
Cleanup and Final Checks
To close out your project, we check for any issues and ensure the final product is up to our standards. This includes a final walkthrough and check of the system and notes about caring for it before we leave. We typically recommend three full days or 72 hours before your concrete coating system is ready for everyday use, though this can vary based on environmental factors such as season and humidity, which we will communicate with you.
